Tribal people that are cut off from the mainstream of development need to be uplifted so as to utilize their talent for the development of the country. For achieving this goal, these masses should be provided quality education so as to enlighten their lives for leading a better life. Vikas Bharti, Jharkhand has undertaken a number of educational projects to eradicate the ignorance and illiteracy prevalent among these vanavasi brethren and elevate their standard of living.On the auspicious occasion of Makar Sankranti, in 1983, Vikas Bharti was formally established as a social organization at Bishunpur, Gumla. In a very short tenure Vikas Bharti proved itself as an organization for social transformation and a friend in need for the downtrodden tribal folk. The idea to provide education, health, livelihood, social harmony, self employment and to promote self reliance became the driving force for the organization.Bal Shramik Awasiya Vidyalaya: This comprises two schools for migrant and labour class children. These were established in 2008 with a view to provide qualitative education to these underprivileged children in a residential mode and it is supported by (National Child Labour Eradication Programme) Welfare Department, Government of Jharkhand. Identification of target groups; management of the centres; teaching based on accelerated learning and community counseling for girls are some of the salient features of this project. Peli Gharer School: Established in 2008, the school is a residential education centre for Primitive Tribe Group adolescent girls and is supported by Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan, Pakur. The main objective of this school is to make these girls stand on their own feet so as to become self sufficient in earning their own bread. Education is provided through accelerated learning method. Besides education, awareness is also created among the adolescent girls about health and gender issues along with the provision of health services. Care is also taken to develop the professional skill among girls.Abua School: This school is also a residential education centre for Primitive Tribe Group adolescent girls established in 2009. It is supported by Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan, Saraikela-Kharsawan.Under the ‘Kishorika’ and ‘Disha’ projects supported by NRTT and SRTT respectively, attention is focused on helping drop-out tribal adolescent girls to matriculate from Jharkhand Board.
