Yashvant Chhatrawas, established in 2010 at Maharashtra’s Chindhi (Mal) village situated on Sindewahi-Navargaon-Chimur route has served as an angel for Pardhi community children whose childhood was earlier lost in the darkness of poverty. This hostel has brought a drastic change in their life and inculcated sanskars among them that are useful for their future development.Since long, Pardhis are regarded as criminals by the society. However this is not completely true. Due to poverty and lack of education, some of them may have opted the wrong path but it is not fair to accuse the entire community for the misdeeds of a few people. All Pardhi brethren are not criminals. They also lead a normal life like other people. They can also reach the peak of success and this has become possible due to the Herculean efforts of RSS karyakartas. This hostel is an effort to open the doors of education for these underprivileged and deserving children from Pardhi community. A complete care is taken while providing bedding, food, stationary, school uniform and other items of daily need to the students. All these expenses are being bored by Bhagyashree Co-operative Bank. For this seva work, an amount of Rs 13 lakh was handed over to the bank by Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh Seva Vibhag Pramukh Pradeepji Vadnerkar who hails from Yavatmal. Investing this money in fixed deposit scheme, the interest amount of Rs 11,000 that is obtained is used for meeting the day to day expenses of the hostel. Also, some kind hearted donors have also rendered their active co-operation for the cause. Care is taken to ensure that these children do not remain deprived of any facility due to paucity of funds. Pardhi-community children belonging to the age group of 5 to 14 who earlier used to appear shy are now developing self-confidence because of the inculcation of sanskars and ethical values at this hostel. Their families are roaming from one place to another in search of work. They stay away from their parents and are still availing the benefit of education relying completely upon the members of hostel management. Their day begins with prayer. After having the bath, children undergo two-hour study session. Now they have developed this habit of studying regularly for two hours. Along with the regular syllabus, training is also given in farming discipline. Whenever someone enters their classroom, all of their hands are raised for wishing namaskar. This beginning will definitely prove a milestone for their success. Management provides them complete parental care. Barring a few festivals like Deepawali, Holi, Pola, etc, these children have now achieved control over their habit of frequently visiting the other villages. Their gesture of leaving hostel for a few hours by completely informing the dean is really appreciable. Pardhi Beda (the residence of Pardhis) is deprived of basic facilities such as tar roads, shelter, pure drinking water, etc. Their life is still roaming in the darkness of backwardness. It is our moral duty to empower at least this new generation of Pardhis and boost their self confidence. We must let them express their feelings before the society and get them connected with the mainstream of social development. Yashvant Chhatrawas is one such attempt.
