In today’s age, a lot of institutions can be found that run educational establishments such as schools, colleges, hostels, ashram schools, etc only for grabbing government grant. However, there are still some institutions who really want to work for the educational upliftment of children belonging to the underprivileged sections of society. Tejasvini Seva Samiti from Maharashtra’s Yavatmal town is one such institution that aims to inculcate sanskars among backward class children while imparting them value-based education. Tejasvini Seva Samiti was established in the year 2000 with a view to provide education along with sanskars to the children belonging to underprivileged sections of society. The organization that derives inspiration from the lives of great women of India such as Rani Laxmibai, Ahilyadevi Holkar and Jijamata has now grown by leaps and bounds. At present, two of its projects viz. Tejasvini Chhatrawas at Yavatmal and Gramvikas Prakalp, Wailingi are running in full swing. Tejasvini Chhatrawas: The girls hostel that used to run earlier in the house of senior RSS swayamsevak Baburao Deo now functions in its own posh building located in the premises of Pushpkunj Society. RSS karyakarta late Anandrao Kohade rendered an active contribution for the construction of building. At present, 20 girls belonging to various sections of society such as Pardhi community, economically backward families and families of suicide-hit farmers from Yavatmal, Amravati, Akola and other districts are residing in the hostel. Computer training is also provided so that the students should run with time. The samiti plans to provide training in small scale and cottage industries in near future. Rashtra Sevika Samiti karyakarta Prabhavatibai Deshpande from Jalna is giving her precious time for the enhancement work of the hostel. Gramvikas Prakap, Wailingi : The samiti has undertaken an ambitious project titled Gramvikas Prakalp at Wailingi village situated in Digras taluka. Surekhatai Kane has donated her house and farm for the sake of this project. This has really set an ideal before the society that is becoming self-centered day by day. The samiti also plans to undertake Vanaushadhi Prakalp in future. Achievements : The samiti has a number of honours to its record while completing ten years of excellence. Up till now, over 100 girls from Tejasvini Kanya Chhatrawas have excelled in the society because of the value-based education and sanskars obtained at the hostel. Tejasvini has enlightened the lives of girls such as Sulochana Pawar belonging to backward Pardhi community who was initially unaware of the hygienic lifestyle and Preeti Gorde who was sold to Christian missionaries for just Rs 1,000 by her drunkard father.Archana Parlawar, an ex-student who belonged to extremely poor family is now availing medical education at Nagpur’s Government Medical College. Asmita Shahane has completed post graduation in English. She is also teaching English to hostel girls. Archana, Shilpa and Sheetal from Arvi village, who lost their parents in a mishap, are being given education and shelter by the samiti. Karyakartas such as Deepa Patel and Jaishree Kale from Yavatmal and Shubhada Joshi and Susheel Khandelwal from Akola are constantly monitoring the progress of the hostel work. The institution runs purely on the basis of donation given by benevolent people from the society without any government aid. The entire workload is successfully shared by women power that includes Manik Kadre, Vaidehi Naigaonkar, Sulabha Gaud, Anjali Chouhan, Rajani Kumbhalkar, etc. These women have set an ideal example of maintaining the equilibrium between family life and spiritualism as proposed by Sant Ramdas. While looking after their families with great care, they are practicing spirituality through the work of Tejasvini. Taking note of this commendable work done by the samiti, Deendayal Sewa Sanstha from Nagpur has honoured Tejaswini with Deendayal Smriti Puraskar. This is indeed the receipt for dedicated efforts put in by the samiti. However, while congratulating the samiti for completion of its ten years of excellence, it needs to be empowered economically for future growth. For this, kind-hearted donors from the society need to come forward. While travelling from Yavatmal to Mahur, one must have a glimpse of this seva work at least once that has proved a symbol of pride for Yavatmal.
